INOGATE & Energy efficiency
Countries worldwide are increasingly turning towards energy conservation and efficiency as the most effective ways of reducing energy consumption, saving costs and building more self-sufficient energy sectors. Energy savings is one of the most cost effective ways to enhance security of energy supply, and to reduce emissions of greenhouse gas and other pollutants.
Energy efficiency should receive more attention and be a higher priority. Energy efficiency is at the heart of the EU’s energy policy, setting ambitious targets for energy efficiency improvements for the years to come.
Developing effective policy and legal frameworks and creating an enabling environment for energy efficiency investments is the goal of the INOGATE Progamme in its support to its Partner Countries. It is particularly significant against the background of increasing global investment in energy efficiency and its resulting energy savings.
INOGATE helps its Partner Countries tap into this “cheap” fuel and create greater awareness and better opportunities for using the massive benefits of energy efficiency. It is a keystone of INOGATE’s cooperation with its Partner Countries. Over the years, INOGATE has been working closely with local policy makers, institutions and other stakeholders to advance their energy efficiency agendas and help the Partner Countries in fast tracking their progress.
The focus of INOGATE’s assistance for enhanced energy efficiency varies by Partner Country and their accomplishments are also diverse. For example, Georgia, as an applicant for full membership in the Energy Community, needs support to prepare itself better to multiply its benefits and deliver on its commitments. INOGATE has been helping Georgian policy makers in understanding the process and to provide expertise to develop adequate legislation.
Another way INOGATE has helped Partner Countries is providing specific training courses on energy auditing methodologies and practices. As a result of such training, INOGATE has helped increase investments in energy efficiency projects. For instance, INOGATE provided training to the Energy Efficiency Fund of Moldova which, as a result, has already financed more than 20 projects for improvement of energy efficiency in the residential and industry sectors with a planned total investment of about €5 million. Awareness raising on the importance of energy efficiency is a cross-cutting theme of INOGATE assistance.
INOGATE has been active in facilitating energy efficiency uptake in the buildings and industry sectors while in the near future, the transport sector is also targeted.
