INOGATE & Renewable energy
In the modern world, where dependency on fossil fuels is significant and environmental concerns are grave, the role and benefits of renewable energy sources (RES) cannot be underestimated. As the competition for finite fossil fuel resources intensifies, countries around the globe are increasingly turning to developing RES sources, some on a large scale. The benefits of RES are compelling: derived from natural processes, they can be replenished as they are consumed, they reduce reliance on imported fuels and strengthen energy security. Cleaner than fossil fuel, renewables directly address the growing problem of greenhouse gas emissions, thereby enhancing environmental security. RES can also contribute to economic growth and create jobs.
All these factors are critical for fostering the development of energy sectors in the INOGATE Partner Countries. Diversifying their energy mix, stimulating job generation and technology innovation as well as creating positive impact on the environment are the energy goals that the Partner Countries need to address successfully; renewable energy can be instrumental in this process.
Understanding the full potential of RES is crucial for designing appropriate policies and mechanisms to foster growth and ensure robust development of the sub-sector. Each Partner Country (PC) has different RES potential, as well as differing policies and support mechanisms. INOGATE's multifaceted process addresses different aspects of renewable energy such as development of supporting policy and legislation frameworks, elaboration of methodologies and guidelines, capacity building, exchange of technological know-how, networking and awareness raising.
INOGATE is working with key stakeholders in its PCs to comprehensively map RES sources. This mapping tool will help a broad range of players to make sound energy investment decisions and increase the number of successful RES projects. It will also help policy makers to better understand the opportunities and bottlenecks in the development of renewable energy sources and assist in decision making on renewable energy investments.
