INOGATE & Energy policy

Rising concerns over global warming and depletion of fossil fuels have significantly influenced the energy policies of many countries in recent decades. A growing awareness of global energy and environmental challenges has spurred the development of strategies and policy instruments to underpin deployment of sustainable energy and a more efficient use of existing energy sources. Establishing appropriate energy regulations for competitive markets, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, moving to low carbon economies and introducing more efficient technologies require concerted international effort and commitment towards building a sustainable future.

INOGATE works closely with the ministries and state agencies responsible for the development and implementation of energy policies and legislation in the Partner Countries. This process requires joint efforts to review the current energy policies in place, identify gaps and analyse needs. INOGATE shares the best European practice in energy policies, structures and technologies.

Relevant organisations from the Partner Countries can apply for INOGATE assistance in the development or improvement of primary and secondary legislation, the formulation of strategies and action plans and the development of support schemes for renewable energy and financial incentives for energy efficiency.

A primary goal of INOGATE is strengthen the capacities of institutions and help governments to develop viable energy policies and mechanisms to enhance energy security, competitive energy markets and economic growth, and promote sustainable development.
