Comp A: RES Map Scoping Missions

Objective

The Geospatial Mapping Platform is a user-friendly tool for assessing the economic potentials of investments in wind, solar and other renewable energy sources as well as defining support mechanisms / incentives. It provides a reasonable idea of the investment cost, the tariffs needed to justify investment and the likely returns on investment for a certain installed capacity and energy yield from a given renewable energy technology. This helps decision makers to decide whether or not it makes sense to implement incentives, and what the results might be for different forms of incentives. It is a highly visual tool which facilitates the dialogue between policy makers, potential investors and the renewable energy supply chain.

During the mission, the ITS team together with GEDF will be planning the RES mapping tool including collecting local data. The objective of the work is to emerge from the mission period with a clear, shared view of the final deliverable, the work programme and assigned duties to develop the tool for wind and solar energy. In subsequent steps, the tool will include additional modules for small hydro and other renewable energy sources and may extended to include other Partner Countries.
